Until now I never realised this, but in Windows XP whilst it can write a CD natively, it can’t do the same for DVD’s. How shit is that? You would have thought that with various patches and service packs this would be the case. Just how far out of touch is Microsoft?

If like me the you can’t see the point in getting Vista (its more a step back than forwards) then you’re left with only one choice after trawling the internet relentlessly and thats to get additional software, like Nero, Roxio etc..

Or you could try my solution, which no-one lists….

Get Ubuntu/ Linux or Mac OS X! Both burn DVD’s natively along with many other features and they generally run much faster/better too! 🙂 Ubuntu is also free, which is a great choice providing that you’re an average PC/office user and can always run it on a dual-boot (you don’t need to get rid of Windows) and you can still access all those files that you need. Problem solved! Which reminds me that I should get round to installing it on my laptop.

Ubuntu can be found here
